Free Decodable Book Sampler for Parents

You do not need to be a reading expert to help your child read. The parent sampler shows you exactly where to start, with one full Set 1 book and a short guide that explains the stage your child is at.

What's in the sampler

  • One full Set 1 decodable book, The Ant, built using only 10 letter-sounds: a, m, s, t, p, f, i, n, o, d

How to read it together

Warm up with the word list

Before opening the story, have your child read the list of words on the front inside cover. This builds muscle memory for the sounds before they meet them in a sentence.

Use the pointer trick

Encourage your child to point under each letter as they say the sound. This keeps their eyes on the code and stops them guessing from the pictures.

Be the heart word helper

Some words have tricky parts that do not follow the rules yet. We call these heart words. If your child gets stuck, just give them the word. It keeps the momentum going while they focus on the sounds they do know.

Enjoy the show

After they decode the text, let them enjoy the movie-style illustrations. The visuals reward the reading, they do not replace it.

What makes Innerlinks different

  • Clean font and open layout, so your child's brain is not fighting clutter
  • Cinematic illustrations that lift the story without solving the words
  • A free phonics game and quiz at the end of every book

Ready for book two?

If your child can hear the /a/ in Ant, and blend s-i-t to make sit, they are ready for the next book. See the rest of Set 1 or browse individual titles.
