Decodable Books for Dyslexic Learners

Reading is a code. Some children take longer to crack it, and dyslexia is one of the most common reasons why. Innerlinks decodable books are designed so the page never adds to the load. Generous spacing, dyslexia-friendly typography, and a phonics progression that meets your child or student exactly where they are.

Why dyslexia-friendly decodables matter

For a dyslexic reader, every unfamiliar word is a potential roadblock. A decodable book removes that risk by design. Every word inside an Innerlinks book uses only the letter-sound pairings your child has already been taught. There is no surprise word waiting on page seven.

Paired with our typography choices, generous line and word spacing, and a soft cream paper colour that reduces visual stress, the reading experience becomes calmer and clearer.

What we do differently

Open, clean font

Letters that often get confused, like b and d, p and q, sit clearly apart. The font follows the same design principles recommended by leading dyslexia organisations.

Generous line and word spacing

Wider word and line spacing helps with tracking, so the next line is easier to find and the eye is less likely to skip or repeat.

Cream paper, not bright white

Bright white can glare. Our pages use a softer cream that lowers visual stress for many readers, including those with scotopic sensitivity.

Controlled phonics progression

The biggest dyslexia-friendly choice is the scope and sequence itself. Decodables that line up with the sounds your reader has been taught remove the guessing pressure entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Are Innerlinks books officially certified as dyslexia-friendly?

Innerlinks books follow design principles recommended by dyslexia organisations — open typefaces, generous spacing, and a cream background. They were created by a literacy specialist and parent of a dyslexic child. Always discuss individual needs with your child's specialist.

What age are your decodable books suited for?

The books are designed for early readers in Years 0–2, but many families and specialists use them with older readers in intervention because the illustrations feel age-appropriate rather than babyish.

Can I use Innerlinks if my child is not diagnosed with dyslexia?

Absolutely. The clean typography and controlled phonics benefit any reader working through the early stages of decoding. Dyslexia-friendly design is good design for all readers.

Do these books work with Orton-Gillingham or structured literacy programs?

Yes. Innerlinks follows a structured phonics scope and sequence grounded in the Science of Reading, which aligns well with OG and other structured literacy approaches. Check the UFLI crosswalk to see which lessons each book targets.

How do I know which set to start with?

Start with the free sampler. It shows you Set 1 in full, which covers the earliest CVC sounds. If your child is already decoding short vowel words, Set 2 or Set 3 may be a better fit — the set guides will help you narrow it down.
